Why is it so hard to Understand
and Speak Fluent English?

The reason you can’t speak and understand high level, fluent English is because you have learned the wrong kind of English.

I’ve been learning the wrong kind of English?

What most people don’t know is there are two kinds of English.

1) Learner’s English. This is the English you have been studying. It is the reason your English doesn’t improve. Learner’s English is what non-native students learn from books, or in classes. Learner’s English is a much lower-level English for beginners. It is spoken slowly and clearly, like to young children.

2) Fluent English. This type of English is used for real communication. Native speakers only use fluent English. It is natural natural spoken English.

Learner’s English and Fluent English
are very, very different!

You have only studied Learner’s English. Because of this, when you listen to native speakers…

• …their speech sounds too fast.
• …you don’t understand all of the words.
• …you feel frustrated with your progress.

Studying Learner’s English
causes these problems:

• You can’t make long, advanced sentences when you speak.
• Your phrasing and pronunciation sound very different from native speakers.
• Your English isn’t fast and smooth like a fluent speaker.

Differences between Learner’s and Fluent English:

I’ll say it slower for you:

Here’s the transcription of what he said:

Here is the same phrase, spoken in Learner’s English:
“I’m sure a lot of people are saying, ‘Where do we sign up?’”

In this short sentence there are thirteen words.

Seven words sound different
from the way you probably learned them.

Learner’s English	Fluent English

There are many reasons why they sound different, but here is one:

In Learner’s English they teach “a lot of.” But, in Fluent English this sounds like, “aloduh.”
The “t” changes to a “d” sound, and “of” changes to “uh”

Sounds such as “sher” and “aloduh” aren’t difficult. They’re just different. That’s why the audio was difficult: In this Fluent Spoken English example, more than half of the words sound different from the Learner’s English version.

Here’s one more example:

This is some Fluent English from a news show.

Here it is again a little slower:

And here it is in Learner’s English:

That was just not helpful.

There are five words in this short sentence. And notice: Three out of five sound very different when spoken in Fluent English.

More than half the words in Fluent English
are spoken very differently.

In these two sentences, 10 out of 18 words sound different in Fluent Spoken English. And this is typical.

FACT: More than 50% of all the words in Fluent Spoken English are pronounced very differently from the way textbooks and teachers and websites are teaching you.

So, of course it’s difficult for you to understand!

Language Learning Secret:
Speed is NOT the Problem!

This is a very important point: Speed of speech is NOT the reason that Fluent Spoken English is difficult to understand.

This Fluent English example was slow. The reason it’s difficult is not because native speakers talk fast. It’s difficult because you have been studying Learner’s English, instead of Fluent Spoken English.

Fluent Spoken English is how native speakers actually talk.

It’s time for you to stop studying Learner’s English, and to start studying Fluent Spoken English.

Module 2 – Did you know that nobody will say: "What are you doing? Do you want to go shopping?" In American English, everybody says, "Whatchya doin? Dya wanna go shoppin’?" In Module 2 I show you everything you need to know to master natural sentences like these. Soon, this will be very very easy for you.

 

Module 3 – Did you know that "gonna" is a word unique to the language of Fluent English? You won’t find it in most dictionaries, but we use it 100 times a day. It even has its own grammar rules. So I’m gonna show you the secret to how native speakers use it. Then you’re gonna practice using it, and you’re gonna be understanding more and more Fluent English!

 

Module 4 – Fluent speakers almost never say "him" and "her." They say things like: "Ya wanna tell ‘im ‘er car ranoudda gas?"

That sentence should have been easy for you. Unfortunately, you’ve been studying learners English, so you probably didn’t understand. In module 4 we are going to fix this problem together. By the way, "Ya wanna tell ‘im ‘er car ranoudda gas?" spoken in simple learner’s English is:

You want to tell him, her car ran out of gas? Do you really want to continue studying Learner’s English like that? It’s silly.

 

Module 5 – In this module I’m going to make sure you understand the "missing G":

If you didn’t understand that sentence now, you will when you finish module 5.

 

Module 6 – you will master "gotta," "hafta," and "hasta." They are very common, but these words have special rules. In Module 6, I show exactly when you can, and when you can’t use them.

 

Module 7 – It’s almost impossible to have a conversation in English if you don’t understand "yer" when you you hear it. In Module 7, I make it easy for you.

 

Modules 8 & 9 – I’m sure this is difficult for you:

It was difficult because you probably haven’t studied the "J morph". So, in Modules 8 & 9 there are audios, videos, and exercises especially designed to make sure you always understand the eight most common

"J morphs" whenever you hear them.

Finally, phrases like this

will be easy for you to understand!

Module 11 – A lot of courses only teach common morphs, but I want to make sure you understand everything you hear. In this module, I’m going to teach you to understand the most common short words in Fluent English. You’ll be shocked that nobody every explained these to you before now!

 

Module 12 – you need to master the "disappearing" sounds from the beginning and ending of words. With the exercises in module 12 I’ll help you master them quickly and easily.

 

Module 13 – You will master a major group of words and sounds that are the reason Fluent English and Learners English are so different. You need to master them all, if you want to understand natural English conversations. You won’t find these words in a dictionary. They are only found in Fluent Spoken English. But I make sure that all my students understand these when they hear them. And you will too.

 

Module 14 – Three of the most common words in Fluent English will become easy for you, and you will understand sentences like this:

Did you understand the three short words in that sentence? No? Then it’s probably time to put down your books, and start learning how people really speak.

After Module 14 you will quickly and easily understand these, and everything else I’ve shown you.
